After sustaining an injury in a Fatal 4-way match to determine the Number One Contenders for the Tag Team Championship, Curtis Coleman has been in and out of the hospital. We recently sat down with the former Corporate Champion to see what his status was while he was resting at home.
Interview recorded 10/10/15
OSWA: Curtis, can you tell us what happened in that match?
Curtis Coleman: If you had asked me the week after it happened, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. I had to go back and watch the footage to see what went wrong. Marcus Adams gave me a big leg drop from the second rope and my head was driven directly into the canvas. The next thing I knew, I was in the locker-room with the OSWA support staff and EMT making sure I was ok. I wanna say thank you to everyone on the OSWA staff. They went and got my sons from the audience to bring them back to see me so that they were assured I was ok. The support staff makes the show happen and since we’re all like a family, it really meant so much that they went ahead to make sure my family was safe and in the know. But I really want to say thank you to all of the fans that sent me well wishes and words of encouragement. I do this for all of you and it meant the world to know that you were all reaching out and do whatever you could to help me heal.
O: Wow. That’s definitely a scary situation. So Marcus Adams’s leg drop is what did you in?
Coleman: Absolutely. And this isn’t make believe or some made up stuff. I went to go check with the doctor right after the O-Sho and they did an MRI. They had to keep me overnight because I had bleeding on the brain. It was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I mean, I’ve played football my whole life, wrestled with a broken ankle, but this? This was different.
O: Johnnie Walker and Adrian Phillips were the first people in the back to help you out. What did you tell them?
Coleman: I apologized to Adrian. We were trying to get those tag belts. I felt like I let my best friend down. He told me it was no big deal but I still feel like I just disappointed him and all my fans.
O: Well we know about how much of a fighter you are, we definitely were NOT disappointed in you. You showed how professional you were and truly how tough you are. What is the diagnosis now?
Coleman: Well the true professionals were in the ring with me. Jamar Anderson capitalized on the situation and I don’t fault him for that. Him and Keith Cage are such a good tag team, I was rooting for them the next O-Sho. Zach Daniels made sure I was ok after the match and everyone did what they were supposed to do. Sorry, I just wanted to say that first.
O: No problem.
Coleman: But the diagnosis…it’s not good. I can’t go a day without a headache that makes me throw up. I can’t lift over 10 pounds. I feel so different. I’ve been to the ER about 5 times since the inicident and I just wish I could go back to normal, you know?
O: I have to ask. Johnnie Walker was shaken after it happened. He said that you told him, “I’m a dad first. I can’t let my kids not have a dad. I can’t do this anymore” and that you broke down a little. I hope I’m not overstepping any boundaries with that statement, but is that true?
Coleman: Absolutely. I am a husband and a father first and foremost. I don’t remember that so I guess that was just my heart talking. But I can’t disagree with that. It’s the truth.
O: So are you done, Curtis? Because you are such a driving force within the OSWA.
Coleman: I have good days and bad days. But I have days left with my family and I can’t risk that. I will be at exFEARience to talk to the fans and tell them myself because that’s just the way that I was raised.
O: Wow. Well on behalf of everyone here at the OSWA, I want to say Thank You for all of your contributions. You are family to all of us and you will always have a home with us. We love you Curtis and we all wish you well.
Coleman: That means more than you know. The O will always be home to me. Thank you
There you have it. Curtis Coleman will address the OSWA at exFEARience. We want to thank Curtis for inviting us into his home and letting us speak with him.
